Adolescent Treatment
Non-Extraction (No Teeth Pulling)
(All cases below were treated by Dr. Angolkar over the last 15 years)
The comprehensive orthodontic treatment is broadly divided into two groups: Non-Extraction and Extraction. In the former we prevent extraction of permanent teeth and in later extractions are needed to create room on the jaw bones. The room created by extraction of teeth is closed fully before removing the braces.
At our office we try to prevent extraction of teeth as much as possible to preserve integrity of arches and give broad smiles. However, to accomplish the goal of Non-Extraction treatment we need active growth and use of some accessories and braces to create space or address bite problems. Following are examples of Non-Extraction and Extraction treatment in our office.
Non-Extraction:
Expanders: Commonly used device with full braces to create room. Based on the principle that the wider the arch of our teeth more the space we create. In our office we use two kinds of expanders: Crown expander & Titanium expander.

| Pendulum Appliance: In some cases it is possible to move the upper molars distally (back) to create spaces for crowded teeth on the front. One such device is the Pendulum appliance used along with braces. | |||

| Rubber Bands (Elastics): In many cases rubber bands are used along with braces to addresses bite problems. Rubber bands are hooked between upper and lower teeth. It is important to remember that the braces align the teeth on each individual jaw bone and rubber bands are needed to bring the bite together evenly. | |||
